Andy Jewell's 62 BeetleThe carAndy's car is fairly standard mechanically, although when he restored the car, he fitted all new components. It has stock drum brakes all round, although shortly he wishes to upgrade to a wide 5-stud disc brake kit fitted on a 3.5" narrowed front beam, and replace the single circuit master cylinder with a dual circuit unit. Andy has recently fitted an Autogauge 5" tacho and Autometer 2 1/16" Sport-Comp oil temperature and pressure gauges. A Gene-Berg shifter selects the gears. Last year, he fitted a Rancho Pro-Street gearbox, with short Sway-away axles. We fitted the axles and axle tubes, brake back plates and axle oil seals for him. He installed the gearbox himself. A VW SpeedShop intermediate mount with rubber mounts is fitted to the gearbox, and a Gene Berg traction bar is used. A the rear, Avo coil-over shock absorbers are used to help launching and the spring-plate stops have been modified to prevent positive camber under deceleration. Front and rear BugPack uprated anti-roll bars are fitted. Andy has just removed the bumbers and has fitted black T-bars to the car. I have been fortunate enough to have Andy let me drive his car on many occasions. I took it to the Brighton Breeze 2002 while he was on holiday. It is one of the nicest Beetles I have driven.
