Mike Griffiths' 62 BeetleThe carMike's car has a 4" narrow king and link pin beam with recessed bodywork. CB Performance dropped spindles are fitted with cross-drilled disc brakes drilled to Porsche pattern. At the rear, a CB Performance Porsche 5-stud disc brake kit is fitted. We fitted a dual-circuit master cylinder with a relocated brake fluid reservoir. Uprated front and rear anti-roll bars are used. The rebound stops on the rear suspension spring plates have been modified to stop the rear suspension going to a positive camber when coming off the power. Bus rubber-snubbers have been used instead of the original bump stops. The engine and gearbox are solid mounted using Bugpack solid mountings (with Funkenblitz CDS tube support bars to rear seat area). A VW Speedshop intermediate mount is used, with the rubber mounts replaced with Funkenblitz engineered aluminium blocks. No traction bar is required with this setup. Gears are shifted by a 60% reduced throw Gene Berg shifter. Autometer Sport-Comp tacho, and Sport-Comp oil temperature and pressure gauges are fitted. A full-flow oil system is used along with a Mesa fan assisted cooler fitted along side the gearbox, under the rear seating area. The engine bay sound proofing was removed, the mounting tags ground off and the area was then cleaned and repainted. A Microdynamics soft cut rev-limiter and Bugpack breather box were fitted to the engine. The engine tinware, including the Scat 36hp dog house fan shroud, was powder coated black. The 48 IDA Weber carburettors on original Skat-Trak tall manifolds were purchased from Keith Seume. Engine specification (2276cc)
