Tom Silsbury's 56 Oval SunroofThe carTom's car has a 4" narrow king and link pin beam with recessed bodywork. Dropped spindles are fitted with cross-drilled disc brakes drilled to Porsche pattern. The engine and gearbox are solid mounted using Bugpack solid mountings (with Funkenblitz CDS tube support bars to rear seat area). A VW Speedshop intermediate mount is used, with the rubber mounts replaced with Funkenblitz engineered aluminium blocks. No traction bar is required with this setup. Gears are shifted by a Gene Berg locking shifter. Engine breathing is handled by a CSP breather box mounted under the rear seat area. The engine is monitored by a full set of Autometer gauges (5" Monster Tach, 2 1/16" oil temp, oil pressure, cylinder head temp). Simpson harnesses are fitted. Avo coil-overs are fitted to the rear suspension, with Spax adjustables to the front. Front and rear uprated anti-roll bars are also fitted. A Hurst line lock is fitted for doing those smokey burn-outs. Tom's plans over the winter are to remove the engine to fit a fresh set of Bugpack 1 3/8" valve springs and remove gearbox and fit short race axles and axle tubes in order to fit a CB Performance Porsche pattern rear disc brake seup kit. The shorter axles will enable him to use Erco race-weight rear wheels fitted with M&H treaded slicks. Hopefully the improved traction will allow him to improve on is 13.4 second best 1/4 mile time, set on 7-year old Yokohama 205/65/15s. Engine specification (2276cc)
